Shared Spaces at Dragon’s Den TCG

In an ever increasing digital world, it’s more important than ever to have shared physical spaces to meet and grow a community.

This video features interviews from staff and customers about why they enjoy spending time with each other at Dragon’s Den TCG. I went into it without a formal script. I used my training from the local news world to find soundbites and pieced them together to tell this story.

Brennan Proposes to Rachel: The Trailer

Brennan pops the question to his longtime girlfriend Rachel and wanted to incorporate all their friends, family and city. Part love letter and part ode to Muskegon, this video was shown at as a trailer in a movie theater, where Rachel’s reaction was caught.

Spoiler alert: she said yes!

This was a lot of fun shooting and filming. Brennan and I drove around Muskegon for two days getting a variety of different shots and bringing in their family and friends.

Testing Food Consistency & Durability | Amway WHQ News

Just like any product, food has to be tested to ensure quality.

There’s a lot going on in the Food & Beverage Lab ay Amway World Headquarters. I wanted to be a granular as the scientists in getting footage, focusing on the bigger experiments like tumbling the fruit snacks to testing the elasticity of the supplements.

An Air Purifier In Your Car? | Amway WHQ News

Innovation and the spirit of entrepreneurship is the heart of every great idea. This is the story of how scientists are addressing air pollution with a personal, portable solution to help their customers breathe cleaner air.

I shot and edited this story, using video I captured in the Amway labs with some previous Atmosphere Drive marketing material and a photo I absolutely love. It follows Michele’s standup and shows the showing a giant air purifier unit in the back of someone’s car. It speaks for itself and let it breathe while the voice-over plays.

“Snackables” – Bite-sized videos for autoplaying social media feeds

These are a collection of videos we call in the news business “snackables.” They’re bite-sized nuggets of information paired with video that are meant to be watched while scrolling through social media feeds such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Facebook in particular has an autoplay feature that automatically starts videos if they’re in the user’s newsfeed. They start playing with the sound off, so we can’t rely on sound effects or interview clips to attract attention. My goal with these videos is to lead with the best image I had with a graphic that hooks the viewer so they stay and watch the whole thing. Deviating from a 16:9 aspect ratio to a square was done to take up as much screen real estate on small screens as possible.

Videos made with this in mind have an advantage over documentary packages in that they can show up on someone’s feed and get their attention when they otherwise might not have the brand in mind.

From Seed to Supplement | Amway Open Meeting

This is a branded news story made for Amway World Headquarters showing how one of their best known products, Nutrilite, is developed from seed to supplement.

Chris Koops is a video producer with Amway World Headquarters and flew to El Petacal, Mexico to get insight on how Nutrilite is sourced. I edited his incredible footage into this story, and he presented it directly to Doug DeVos in this segment of Open Meeting.

Open Meeting is a series Amway produces to share stories from around the company with the world. It’d modeled after a newscast, with different locations within the studio for the host and reporter. I directed and edited the episode, calling camera angles and giving time cues to Doug and Chris.
